The first day hiking starts from Changu Narayan temple which is believed to stand from 4th century. The temple is achievement of intricate design and richest cultural heritage that makes a must visiting destination for every tourist interested in Nepalese history and culture. It is about 5 hours hiking follow through the unique local villages, forest and view points of mountain. Nagarkot is in the altitude of 2175 meters is good place to view sunset and sunrise including panoramic mountains. If weather is perfect, it is also possible to have far view of Mt Everest.

The second day of hiking is moderate hike about 16 kilometers through the beautiful landscapes on the horizon. Beautiful pine and Rhododendron forest is the hiking path today. You will totally feel being inside the nature and enjoy the Himalayan views. If you feel to take a car drive after 4 hours of hiking, Kasi Bhnjyang is the option to getting into the car and drive back to Kathmandu.   • Day 01:Drive to Changunarayan temple. Hike to Nagarkot for 5 hours

    Hiking is via local village, green forest and valley view. It is about 1 hour driving journey. Visit the famous Changunarayan Temple located on a hilltop east of Kathmandu. This shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and held in special reverence by the Hindu people, considered to be the oldest temple in Nepal.

    Setting out from Changu the first part of the trail is more natural as it follows the ridge, rich with deciduous forest. The Himalayas appear in the distance totally remote and undisturbed. The walking is easy with a gradual uphill slope.

    Emerging from the forest head through terraced fields via Tamang Village. The thatched houses, painted with ochre, are built by with local stone hand-hoon by local craftsmen. These houses are normally 3 storied with a kitchen on the ground floor, a bedroom on the second. Lunch will be at the nearby village of Bastola Gaun where we enjoy Nepali lunch with a local family at Nagarkot in Community Home stay. Further hike to reach Hotel for overnight.

  • Day 02:Explore Nagarkot and hike to Dhulikhel, Drive back to Kathmandu

    Nagarkot, at an altitude of 2,175m, is a city full of lushness and panoramic views of Mt.Everest towards the North-East and other mountain ranges like Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, Manaslu, Number, Ganesh, and Annapurna. The scenery is especially splendid during the sunrise, which you will be able to witness from the hotel.

    After your breakfast in the Hotel, The hike from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel. It is is moderate hiking about 16 kilometers and takes about 6 hours, and it really lets you relax and enjoy the moment with beautiful landscapes on the horizon. The roads are usually earthen, and you can get amazing views of the Himalayan ranges. You will be passing through dense pine forests and even rhododendron. After reaching at Kasi Bhanjyang, you have option to call car to drop you Dhulikhel and to Kathmandu.

You also have option to add visiting the Bhaktapur durbar squire. This is one of the oldest palace 7 kilometer ahead from Changunarayan temple. Before starting of hiking from Changunaran to Nagarkot, another 3 hours Bhaktapur Durbar squire worth. The squire is called 'City of Devotee' the 'City of Culture', the 'Living Heritage', and 'Nepal's Cultural Gem'. Bhaktapur is filled with monuments, most terra-cotta with carved wood columns, palaces and temples with elaborate carvings, gilded roofs, open courtyards. The city is dotted with pagodas and religious shrines.

Extend activities of add hiking days around Kathmandu

Instead of only 2 days hiking around Kathmandu, it can extend for 3 days, 4 or 5 days. It also has option to visit Namobuddha, Balthali and Panauti village by driving or by hiking. Dhulikhel is another hill station similar of Nagarkot. In the trip of hiking plan around the Kathmandu, there are other activities to add. Packing list for days hiking around Kathmandu

You do not pack much thing in this hiking trip. You are going to stay only one overnight in the hotel of Nagarkot. Just a pair of cloth that need to change after your hiking is in your packing list. Beside that water bottle, your camera, mobile, charger are the short list of packing. It is better to carry small back pack with you that is comfortable to carry with hike. Packing list for this trip also depend on the season. If you are hiking in winter months (December to February) it is important to bring one pair of warm cloth. You can hike with normal hiking shoes. Hiking during the raining season, you also have to hike with well cover rain coat.

Hiking around Kathmandu valley for 2 days is doable all round the year. Although trekking route feels difficult to walk in monsoon season. But the season of Autumn, Spring and winter is perfect time to choose this hiking. Since the hiking route is not much in the altitude, the route is all clear without any sleepary ice on the way even in the winter months. Hiking from month of March till May is more charm of the route because of blooming flowers. Temperature may fall down till the minus during the winter time in Nagarkot and Chisapani only during the night. Days temperature is warm enough. Months of spring and Autumn, you feel hot during the day with sunny weather.
