Banking and Foreign Exchange

Nepali currency called rupees.Nepal has modern banking and exchange facilities. All the hotels, guest houses accept credit card for any payment. For your payment to Travel and Trekking agencies you can do by credit card, Bank transfer or cash from any countries. PayPal facilities are not has developed in Nepal. Major touristic cities and hotel counters have cash exchange facility. Every bank has also facility of exchanging any countries cash. It is suggest exchanging your cash in Bank to get better rate.  Also suggest to take receipt when exchange your currency so that you can exchange back your own currency while you are leaving Nepal to your own country.

ATM machines are available most of the cities on Nepal. It only provides Nepali rupees from your cards. You have to prepare enough Nepali currency, if you are leaving Trekking in Nepal. Trekking areas of Nepal do not have facility of exchanging and Banking. Local accommodation or restaurants do not accept your credit card.

Nepalese rupees are found in denominations of 1000,500,100,50,20,10 and 5. Only coins are available of 1 and 2 rupees.  

Banking and Exchange in Bhutan
Bhutan
currency called Ngultrum. Bhutan is a cash economy! Visa and MasterCard are not accepted at smaller shops, but bigger shops and some hotels accept MasterCard. If you bring in cash, Your best option is to change dollars or whatever you bring into ngultrum’s at the airport. The exchange rate is the same as in the banks in town. Keep in mind that banks get much harder to find outside the capital. You can also change your money at the hotels in Thimpu, but the rate is not as good as doing it in Bank. Banking and Exchange in Bhutan
Currency in Tibet is Chinese RMB or Chinese Yuan. The current rate of the Yuan is about 7 for 1 US Dollar. However the exchange rate keep changing and it is better to recheck again before you go. Beside Chinese Yuan, only US Dollar is acceptable. Bank of China, only few hotels and fewer shops accept your credit card.  

Money changer/ ATMS/ Bank in Tibet
There are very few ATMs and money changer in Lhasa. Only bank of China accept foreigner exchanger facility in Tibet. It is hard to change your currency (USD) out of Lhasa. Better to have enough money with you while going out of Lhasa.

Credit cards are use only in big hotels of Lhasa and Shigatse. Beside that there are few shops accept credit card in Lhasa. Out of Lhasa and Shigatse, it is necessary to take cash Yuan cash everywhere.
