What is Mount Everest Famous For?

Mount Everest is a Himalayan peak and it is considered the tallest point on earth. The name Mount Everest is called Sagarmatha in Nepali and Sanskrit, it has various meanings. One of the meanings in Nepali is the forehead of the earth. Tibetan called it Qomolangma which means Mother Goddess of the world. The mountain is capped with snow and ice all year round.

When was Mount Everest discovered?
Mount Everest was already named by Nepalese as Sagarmatha and Tibetan as Qomolangma (Chomolungma). Latter the peak named Everest in the honour of British surveyor and geographer Colonel George Everest in 1856, who was largely responsible for the accomplishments of the Survey of India. British began a great mathematic survey of India in 1802, due to political violence they were not allowed to enter Nepal. They still continue this survey and the 1847 Surveyor general of India considers Mount Kanchanjunga as the tallest mountain in the world. In the meantime, he noted a next peak taller than Kanchanjunga which is 230 kilometres away. Latter another surveyor Nicolson proved the fact that the next peak near Kanchanjunga is taller than it is Mount Everest but the name was not given. It was not complete work by him, due to Malaria in Nepal; he forced to return back. Finally the uncompleted tack of Nicolson completed by Indian mathematician and surveyor Radhanath Sikdar in 1852 based on a calculation done by Nicolson. Radhanath Sikdar was the first to discover the world’s highest peak.   

Where is Mount Everest?

Mount Everest is in the border of Nepal and Tibet in the Himalayas of Asia. It is part of the Mahalangur Himalayan range. On the Nepal side, Mount Everest is located inside Sagarmatha National park of Sulukhumbu district. Similarly in Tibet side, it is located in Tingri country in the Shigatse area. The north face of Everest located in Tibet and the south face is in Nepal. Likewise, the North Everest base camp altitude of 5,200 meters is in Tibet part near Rongbuk Monastery and the south Everest base camp is in Nepal near Gorakhshep and Kalapathar with an altitude of 5,364 meters. When someone says going to trek Everest Base camp, it is from the south side via Nepal. North Everest base camp reaches by driving.

What mountain range is Mount Everest?
Mount Everest is in Mahalangur Himalayan Range. This range is in northeast Nepal and till south-central Tibet. The Mahalangur Range is home to four earth’s highest peaks. These are Mount Everest (8,848m), Mount Lhotse (8,516 meters), Mount Makalu (8,481 meters), and Cho Oyu (8,201 meters).

How tall is Mount Everest?
Mount Everest is officially 8,848 meters. In feet, it is 29,029. It is recognized by China and Nepal was established by an Indian survey in 1955 and confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975. The latest measurement of Mount Everest in 2005 after several measurements and calculations, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and state Bureau of surveying and mapping announced Mount Everest's height is only 8,844.43 meters. This height was based on rock and not the snow on top of it. They also measured show-ice depth of 3.5 meters. Disagreement starts between Nepal and China in the case of Mount Everest elevation. Nepal was on its stand the original height of Mount Everest is aureate 8,848 meters. In 2010, both Nepal and China agreed that the height of Everest is 8,848m and Nepal also identifies China’s claim that the rock height is 8,844m. Some surveys found its growing height of about 40 centimetres (16 inches) per century.        

When the Mount Everest was first climbed?
The first time summit of Mount Everest was 1983 May 29 by Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal. It was the first to summit from the southern slopes of Nepal. The first summit from the northern slope in Tibet was by Chinese mountaineers Wang Fuzhou, Gongbu, and Qu Yinhua in 1960. How difficult to climb Mount Everest?

Mount Everest is one of the most accessible high mountains in the world. Every year in the spring season, bringing hundreds of climbers to get it's top and thousand of trekkers reach up the base camp of it. It is definitely extremely difficult to climb Mount Everest. There are other mountains less high than the Everest and harder than Everest to climb. The only professional climber can plan to climb Everest once they are fit in the altitude, success to climb other mountains, and built their body in less oxygen. After climbing about a week's time every day for six hours, you will reach a summit. It is more risky and dangerous to get down from the top.

How much does it cost to climb Mount Everest?

There is no fixed cost for climbing every. Cost depends on how experienced you are in expedition and what about your guide. If you are an experienced climber, it takes only a short time to make get ready from Everest Base Camp and you might hot need to hire a personal expedition guide. Some climber hires more than two climbing guide that makes the expedition cost higher. Permit gears, Insurance, guide fee, foods, logistic, oxygen, communication access, garbage, and daily fees for route maker. The cost might go up to USD 50,000 including entire. If you hire an international guide and book this expedition from an outbound company, the cost may go up to USD 65,000.
