Thorang La pass and Tilicho Lake Trekking starts from Chame village after a long day driving from Kathmandu. Himalayan views at the scenic plateau landscape in Manang Valley are the enjoyable trekking path to reach 4,949 meters situated at Tilicho Lake. One acclimatization day in Manang help to adjust your body in high altitude. The region is Buddhist influences have many monasteries to explore. Buddhist mani walls and other temples on the way with the views of the Giant Mountains look nowhere. You are slowly adjusting to the altitude passing and sleeping on the high land. When you are reaching Tilicho Lake it is 4,919 meters and you will be normal breathing. Enjoy the highest Lake Tilicho with the surrounding Himalayan views. Your foot is steep then turn towards the highest Himalayan pass Thorong La. This is the hardest day of this trekking crossing 5,416 meters Thorong La and reaching Muktinath. You are now at another valley of the Annapurna region of Mustang. After you finish trekking in Jomsom, you are flying to Pokhara from this small airport.        

Trek difficulties of the Thorangla Pass and Tilicho Lake Trekking

Tilicho Lake and Thorong La pass trekking reach more than 5000 meters altitude. Every day minimum of 5 to 7 hours should trek to reach an overnight destination. This trek's difficulty level is below strenuous. Trekkers in good health and reasonable physical fitness will be able to complete this trekking without concern. It does not really need previous trekking experience for physically fit people. It is only important to drink enough liquate, eat properly, rest, and follow the instructions of our guide. You will forget the total difficulties of walking with scenic land, mountain views, and people's hospitality.  

Accommodation and food on Thorangla pass and Tilicho Lake trek

This trek is staying in local tea houses. There are similar standard accommodations during this trekking. We offer twin sharing rooms but if you require a single room, that also will be provided wherever possible. Foods during the trekking can choose from the menu. Veg non-veg dinner and breakfast at the same hotel you are overnight and lunch on the way in a suitable place. Foods locally prepare is hygienic touristic standards.

Best Season For Thorangla Pass and Tilicho Lake Trekking

The best season for Thorong La and Tilicho Lake trekking is autumn and spring. The month of March to May and September to November are clear weather in the mountain region. The temperature is mild and clear mountain views.     Your arrival in Trubhuban International airport. After immigration formalities you will see your name board. Representative from Nepal highland treks drop to Hotel. It is about 25 minutes drive from airport to your hotel. Hotel is in major touristic town pf Kathmandu. If time permits, discussion about total trip. 

  • Day 02:Day in Kathmandu. trekking preparation and visit heritage sites. overnight at hotel

    Halfday visit in Kathmandu heritage sites. We cover Pashupatinathnath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa and Bhaktapur durbar squire. Our tour guide will lead you in these 3 cultural heritage sites. Pashupatinath is the Hindu temple, Bodhaanath is a Buddhist stupa and Bhaktapur is oldest palace which leads major attraction inside Kathmandu valley. You will have enough time to prepare trekking.   • Day 03:Drive Kathmandu to Chame 9-10 hours overnight in local tea house 2670m

    It is long driving. Chame is the headquarter of Manang district. about 5 hours road to Besisahar is paved and rest via bumpy road although it is through beautiful waterfall, jungle, local villages and scinic landscape. You will also gain altitude, but won't feel sickness.    

  • Day 04:Trek Chame to Upper Pisang (3300 meters) - 6 hrs. Overnight at tea house

    First day of Trekking, Walk through the dense forest along with bank of Marshyangdi River enter narrow valley. The scenic view of crops land and mountains during this walk. After 6 hours of walking reach at Upper Pisang. Village is surroundings with some of the lold monasteries. Walking tour at Pisang after you setup your overnight    

  • Day 05:Trek Pisang to Manang (3,500 meters) - 6 hrs. Overnight at tea house

    Continue our trek walking through big hills, Jungle and wetland. Cross small Buddhist stupa, Monasteries and Lama’s School on our walking and reach Manang. Manang is biggest village in the Trans Himalayan range of Nepal. Ethnic Gurung and Ghale peoples from here called Manangis. Minorities of Buddhist Lamas who came here from Tibet, Dolpo and Mustang are the inhabited of Manang.   

  • Day 06:Acclimatization in Manang. Explore around and overnight at tea house.

    It is day of acclimatization your body in high altitude. We spend a day in Manang by doing some hiking and sightseeing around the village with your guide. We will visit Monastery and go to Gangapurna Glacier Lake during this hiking. Towards the end of the day, we return to Mang for overnight. 

  • Day 07:Trek Manang to Khangsar Village (3700 meters) 4/5 Hours. Overnight at tea house

    After acclimatized at Manang we continue our adventure for Tilicho Lake, from Manang one heads out through the western gates and then one follows the path down to the river. After crossing the the Khangsar Khola on the bridge below Khangsar and ascend the slope to the village, a village still in the old Tibetan style and which is also known as last village of Nepal. We overnight at locally built tea house here 

  • Day 08:Trek Khansar Village to Tilicho Base Camp (4200meters) 5 hours. Overnight at tea house

    Trek starts via new path that goes a completely different way, reach a high crest, and descend on switch backs carved out through the screed slopes to a side valley of the main valley. At its bottom is a brook. On the other side of it is a building known as Tilicho Base Camp at elevation of 4200 meters. Tea houses have built here to overnight 

  • Day 09:Trek to Tilicho Lake (4,949 m) and back down to Tilicho Base Camp (4200m) 6 hours

    Start to climb early in the morning. take enough drinking water and packed foods. From Base camp to the Tilicho lake takes another 3-4 hours. Tilicho Lake is a cold barren place in the afternoon and claimed as highest lake of the world. After we spend some time around Tilicho Lake we will return same way back to Base Camp since accommodation facilities at Tilicho Lake area is not available

  • Day 10:Trek Tilicho Base Camp to Yak Kharka (4000 meters) 5/6 hours Overnight at tea house

    Returning from Base camp you can keep high and follow a track 400meters or so above Khangsar village passing through the ruins of old Khangsar and follow an unmarked trail which will lead you around and down to cross the river on an old log bridge between Gumsang and Yak Kharka. The mening of Yak Kharka is house of Yak. Tea houses are available here for overnight 

  • Day 11:Trek Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,450m) - 5 hrs. Overnight at tea house

    After a two hour ascent, the trail descends to cross the river at 4,310m. We then climb up to Thorong Phedi at 4,450m where decent guesthouses have been built in the recent years. An option, we also can reach at High camp. It is depend on availability of tea houses. Guide will decide is in previous day.  

  • Day 12:Trek Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,800m) passing Thorang-La pass (5,416m) - 8 hrs. Overnight at tea house

    Today is a long trek starting before sunrise at 4 am to reach the pass by 9-10am. It is to skip heavy wind after mid-day, which might greatly affect the journey, particularly at the Thorung La Pass (5,416m). We climb steeply on a regular route which is quite easy to follow. However, some problems may arise due to the altitude and snow. About four hours climb up to the pass marked by the chortens and prayer flags will reward us with stunning views from the top of the pass. Another four hours of walking down will take us to the holy town of Muktinath. Overnight here.

  • Day 13:Trek down to Jomsom village via Kagbeni visit (2700m) 5 hours. overnight at tea house

    Muktinath is the important place for Hindu and Buddhist. A holy temple, holy bathing 108 taps, Deeping ponds, monastery, big statues of Padmashambhav can explore at morning time. trekking all the way down to Jomsom by following road most of the time. You also have option to catch a Jeep from Muktinath to Jomsom. On the way visiting Kagbeni and Jharkot village is worth so that trekking down is more interesting than driving back.   

  • Day 14:Fly Jomsom to Pokhara, Day in Pokhara to visit major visiting places. overnight at Hotel

    It is early morning flight. You take your early breakfast in Jomsom hotel or go is for Pokhara. Flight is depends on weather. A tiny aircraft with maximum 17 peoples will bring you back to Pokhara with 15 minutes. After checking in Hotel and enough time for resting a memorial visit in Pokhara starts. Boating at fewa Lake, visit International mountain musium, drive or hike to world's peace stupa, visit David fall and Gupteswor caves are in visiting listed. It is your choice either you finish all these places or do some and rest  

  • Day 15:Driving or fly back to Kathmandu. Free time and overnight in Hotel

    Pokhara to Kathmandu is 200 kilometer and takes 7 hours by tourist bus or private car. It is better you stay relax half day in Pokhara and fly at afternoon to Kathmandu. Since you are after long adventure trekking, you might love this way. Evening at Kathmandu, we Nepal Highland Treks offer you a dinner in typical Nepali cultural restaurant. 

  • Day 16:Departure

    Free time in Kathmandu till your departure. It is important to reach international airport before 3 hours from your flight time. Nepal highland treks manage to drop you airport from your hotel

Booking procedure and payment

Booking procedure for this trek is easy. You just need to send your passport copy by email and trip confirmation amount. Advance amount can be about 10% at the time of confirming your trek. Passport copy we need only for preparing your trekking permit. Payment can be made by our online credit card payment system by using your credit card. Also have option to wire amount in our back. Rest of the payment is once you arrive in Nepal. Rest of the payment can be done in the same way and also can pay by cash.
